Grado Laguna
The charm of the laguna comes from a combination of colours, silences, unexpected encounters with herons and countless other bird species. To visit the Grado lagoon, you can rent a boat by yourself, go on a boat excursion, or choose a water taxi, so you can admire unique landscapes and visit the Casoni, typical fishermen’s dwellings on the islets of the lagoon. In addition, one of the main islands of the laguna is home to the Barbana Sanctuary, a place beloved and attended by Grado locals.
Bike itineraries
Grado is the perfect starting point for bicycle excursions. There are many bike tracks for you to explore the territory and visit unmissable destinations. You can ride to Aquileia, a UNESCO heritage site thanks to its Roman treasures that are famous all over the world. If you are a nature lover, you cannot miss the Valle Cavanata Natural Reserve, where visitors can admire the flora and fauna typical of the laguna landscape at the doors of Grado.
Caneo Bar and Restaurant
The Caneo Bar and Restaurant is located next to a picturesque fishermen’s village, just a few kilometres away from the Valle Cavanata Natural Reserve. Here you can enjoy a delicious meal with locally sourced fresh ingredients or soak in the view of the sea and the Isonzo river. Art and culture
Around the Grand Hotel Astoria you will find splendid UNESCO Heritage Sites to visit, which you can reach by car or bicycle. Aquileia, with its extraordinary Basilica and its archaeological heritage, can easily be reached by bicycle via the panoramic cycle path. Palmanova, a fortified town with a unique star-shaped plant, offers a fascinating combination of history and architecture. Cividale, the capital of Lombard culture. And of course, Trieste, a vibrant port city connected to Grado through marine transportation; a city famous for its historical cafés and for having one of Europe’s largest and most beautiful seafront piazzas.
Cona Island
Cona Island, near Grado, is an authentic natural paradise where you can immerse yourself in the beauty of the landscape and get to know local fauna and flora. This is the perfect place for birdwatchers, with privileged positions from which you can observe migratory birds and the local species that inhabit the area. The island is also home to Camargue horses, a robust and majestic breed that feeds on brackish herbs. Visitors can book horseback excursions to explore the territory and admire its beauty.
